A Landmark New Recording of Handel’s Messiah
In March 2016, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square released a new recording of Handel’s beloved oratorio in an edition by Mack Wilberg for large choir and orchestra which still retains the Baroque aesthetics and sound of Handel’s original masterpiece. Relying on history and musical tradition, Wilberg has created a Messiah for our own time.
Here's What Others Are Saying
“It is the singing of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir that is the core of this Messiah… The precision with which a choir of such prodigious numbers executes Handel’s contrapuntal writing is staggering.” (Voix Des Arts, Joseph Newsome)
“With so many recordings of Messiah out there right now, I guess I had kind of expected that all the bases were already covered…I was wrong. This is a recording that defies expectations...In fact, what I’m hearing here is a very large choir that sings most of the choruses with the kind of finesse, precision, restraint, flawless intonation, and subtlety that would be the envy of choirs one-tenth its size.” (Amazon review)
