Hugh Bonneville, British stage, television, and film actor, is best known for playing Robert Crawley, Earl of Grantham, in the acclaimed series Downtown Abbey. During its six seasons he received a Golden Globe and 2 Emmy nominations for his performance.

Hugh was a member of the National Youth Theatre of Great Britian, studied Theology at Cambridge Univeristy, and made his professional theater debut at the Open Air Theatre, Regent’s Park, in 1986. He spent several seasons with the Royal National Theatre before joining the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC), where his many classical roles included playing Laertes to Kenneth Branagh’s Hamlet. 

Hugh Bonneville’s television roles range from dramas such as Madame Bovary and Daniel Deronda to the Emmy Award winning The Gathering Storm. Hugh received four British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) award nominations for his performance as Ian Fletcher in Twenty Twelve  anditssuccessor W1A.

His many film credits include Notting Hill, The Monuments Men, Viceroy's House and two Paddington movies. He received a BAFTA nomination for his role in Iris, in which he starred opposite Kate Winslet.

Hugh recently completed filming a doumentary in Jerusalem about the last days of Jesus , which will be broadcast on PBS in 2018. 

Hugh lives in West Sussex, England,  with his wife, Lulu Williams, and their  fifteen-year-old son.
