Mormon Tabernacle Choir retires 28 members
-- Deseret News --
With tears streaming down most of their faces, 27 members of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, and one member of the volunteer stage crew, bid farewell to their colleagues during mandatory retirement services Sunday morning, April 27.
As the recognition of their dedicated volunteer service to the choir came to an end, the group stood facing the loft and the two groups — retirees and the remaining 360-plus choir members — sang to each other the choir’s traditional farewell song, "God Be with You Till We Meet Again."
Rare photo identified as first director of Tabernacle Choir
-- Deseret News --
Who was the man in the photograph? It was perplexing. Glen Beckstead, a Salt Lake resident and Church member, recently acquired an old leather case measuring about 4 inches long and 3 inches wide. Inside was the photo of a distinguished gentleman wearing dress clothes from the 19th century. No one knew who the man was. Eventually he was identified by Ron Fox, a local photo historian from the Salt Lake 14th Ward, who has made several important recent discoveries.
The man identified in the daguerreotype photo is John Parry, the first director of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. The existence of the photo was unknown to scholars and historians and appeared only once in the Deseret News in about 1900.
Hallelujah! Mormon Tabernacle Choir celebrates Easter with a powerful ‘Messiah’
-- Salt Lake Tribune --
Review » The 360 singers show the power of a large choir, the finesse of a smaller one.
The Mormon Tabernacle Choir served a musical feast on Easter weekend: Handel’s "Messiah" in all its unabridged glory.
Music director Mack Wilberg prepared a new edition of the venerable oratorio for the occasion. This was necessary to allow his 360-voice choir and large orchestra of mostly strings to sound more light and nimble, in keeping with current performance trends.
How to Hear the Mormon Tabernacle Choir's 'Messiah' Without a Ticket
-- Salt Lake Tribune --
And you thought the Christmas concerts were a hot ticket.
Tickets to a pair of Mormon Tabernacle Choir performances of Handel’s "Messiah" were snapped up within 7 ½ minutes of becoming available last month.
If you weren’t among the lucky 5,600 or so who got tickets, there are other ways to experience the concerts, which will be the choir’s first performances of the complete oratorio in recent memory. Thursday’s regular 7 p.m. rehearsal in the Tabernacle will be open to the public, as will a Tuesday rehearsal. Overflow seating with live broadcast will be available in two nearby venues (see accompanying box). And Friday’s performance will be streamed live, then available on demand through Easter weekend.

What Media Are Saying About:
The Choir Christmas Concert 2013
The Choir's New Emmy®Award
The media is buzzing about Deutsche Grammophon’s newly released album Homeward Bound, a collaboration between two musical powerhouses, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and world renowned Welsh baritone Bryn Terfel. The album features a repertoire with a decidedly Americana feel which also reflects the shared Welsh heritage of Terfel and the Choir. One critic writes, “Terfel and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra merge in unison to create a symbolic vision of the spirit of adventure that has been long lost. This is a legendary performance that audiences yearn for; Terfel and company deliver in grand style that won’t leave any eye dry.”
James Taylor, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, and the Utah Symphony wowed a capacity crowd of 21,000 people at the 30th anniversary Tanner Gift of Music concert. At Friday's news conference Mr. Taylor said that this collaboration has brought his songs to a new level.
“After we did a song of mine, an a cappella song called ‘That Lonesome Road,’ I turned to Mack and said, you know, this song has died and gone to heaven,” Taylor said. “This is the iteration of it that was waiting to happen."
