Linda Margetts
Organist
inda Margetts brings an impressive
list of accomplishments to her role as
Tabernacle Organist. She has taught
at two universities, lectured at
Church music workshops for over 20
years, traveled to Europe and the
Middle East to perform organ recitals,
and served as an organ judge and held
leadership positions in state and
local chapters of the American Guild
of Organists.
As one of the Tabernacle organists,
Margetts performs with both the Mormon
Tabernacle Choir and the Temple Square
Chorale. She also joins with her
fellow organists in presenting daily
30-minute organ recitals in the
Tabernacle. In addition, Margetts
teaches music theory in the three-
month Choir training school conducted
twice each year for new entrants to
the Choir and as in-service for
current Choir members. In addition,
she has performed recitals throughout
the Unites States and Canada as well
as in such international venues as
Vienna and Jerusalem.
Margetts has been a Tabernacle
organist since 1984. She been a
member of the music faculty at Utah
State University and is currently an
organ instructor at the University of
Utah where she also teaches theory and
musicianship classes. She has
lectured at the Church Music Workshop
at Brigham Young University annually
for 21 years. Margetts received both
her Bachelor of Arts and Master of
Music degrees in Organ Performance
from Brigham Young University. She
has a PhD in Music Composition from
the University of Utah.
Margetts is a Fellow of the
American Guild of Organists (AGO).
She is currently Counselor for
Education, Region IX for the AGO.
She served two years as Dean of the
Salt Lake chapter of the guild and
five years as the State Chairman for
Utah. She has held a number of key
committee assignments for the AGO over
the years. Margetts has been active
as an organ judge for guild
certification and has judged organists
on four different occasions for the
Utah State Fair competition. She also
served on the selection committee for
the new organ in the new Libby Gardner
Recital Hall on the University of Utah
campus.
Margetts and her husband, Bert, are
the parents of six children.
