Becoming a Choir Member
NO CHOIR AUDITIONS IN 2008
The Mormon Tabernacle Choir has announced that
it will not hold its annual cycle of auditions
in 2008. The Choir recently inducted a large
group of new members and at the present all
vocal sections are well staffed.
The Choir will audition again in July 2009 for
all voice parts. Applications will be available
during the entire month of July 2009 with
completed applications and voice recordings
required to be postmarked by Friday, August 14,
2009.
Special note for applicants who are 55
this year: As a special accommodation
to those applicants for whom 2008 would
represent their last year of eligibility, on a
one-time-only basis for the 2009
auditions, the
application age will be extended to those
turning 56 in calendar year 2009. Those
applicants who are 56 at the time of their
acceptance into the Choir will be able to sing
until the year in which they turn 61, instead of
the usual retirement age of 60.
We thank you for your understanding of this
change in normal procedure and encourage all
interested singers to apply in 2009.

Candidates for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir must
first serve in the Temple Square Chorale,
the training ensemble for the Choir. In order
to
apply for the chorale, you must meet the
following criteria:
- Be between 25 and 55 years of age
- Live within a 100 mile radius of Temple
Square
- Be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ
of
Latter-day Saints in good standing
We know that it is the dream of many choral
musicians to sing with the Mormon Tabernacle
Choir. There are only a limited number of
openings each year and there are numerous
qualified applicants. However, we encourage all
singers who feel they meet the application
criteria to apply.
